The mean follow-up period was 6.6+/-3.9 years (range 1.7-10.3 years) with a total of 442.3 patient-years. Thirteen patients (56%) were in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II or less. Nine patients (39%) had heart failure at the time of presentation and underwent a new mitral valve operation. Ten patients (43%) were in NYHA class II or less, and 4 patients (17%) had heart failure at the time of presentation. The mean systolic/diastolic pressure gradient across the prosthesis was 13.9+/-7.2/11.5+/-5.7 mmHg at the latest follow-up examination. Valve-related complications occurred in 7 patients (30%).
